Since the beginning of the new year 2021, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested 250 Palestinian citizens in different areas, according to a report issued by the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies.

Riyadh Al-Ashqar, director of the center, said that 2021 will not be better than before, as arrests have escalated dramatically during the first two weeks, in addition to the increase in the number of prisoners infected with the Coronavirus.

Al-Ashqar explained that the arrests have become a drain on the Palestinian people, and one of the tools of oppression that the Israeli occupation uses to fight it, as all Palestinian society segments are affected so that no hour passes for the Israeli occupation to carry out an arrest operation for one or more citizens.
Al-Ashqar indicated that the occupation arrested 30 minors under the age of eighteen, the youngest of whom was the child Youssef Alaa Al-Haddad (11 years) from the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, and the two children, Ammar Mahmoud. Thawabetah (15 years old) is from the town of Beit Fajr in Bethlehem, and Diaa Muhammad Ubaid (15 years old) from Issawiya, Jerusalem.

In a related development, the Israeli occupation forces arrested the wounded, Muhi Al-Din Ghaith, 18, at the "60" military checkpoint, south of Hebron, after he was hit by a bullet while he was near the Ibrahimi Mosque.

They also arrested Sheikh Saeed Abdul Aziz Arma (52 years), after a raid on his house in the city of Ramallah, following the spread of his picture on social media, carrying a slingshot and throwing stones at the occupation soldiers, in defense of the territories. From his village, which the Israeli occupation seeks to steal and confiscate.

The Center also monitored a case of arrest in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of this year of a young man while trying to "infiltrate" from the northern Gaza Strip into the occupied territories. He was released after being detained for hours and interrogated.

Al-Ashqar pointed out that the most prominent event during the new year is the large spread of the Corona virus among prisoners .

In addition, the Israeli occupation is manipulating the real numbers of wounded prisoners, because it is the only source of information on the conditions and numbers of prisoners who were injured in isolation in special departments.

Tension and anxiety still hang over all prisons after the massive increase in the number of injured and the disease spread from one prison to another, especially after the deterioration of the health of prisoner Basil Makhlouf from Tulkarm as a result of his injury. Coronavirus and its entry into the stage of danger and transferred to the intensive care unit at Soroka Hospital.

The Israeli occupation continues to delay the approval of giving prisoners the Coronavirus vaccine.

Al-Ashkar pointed out that the health of many prisoners had deteriorated over the past two weeks and reached a dangerous stage due to the continuing medical negligence policy practiced by the Israeli prison authorities against them.

The report stated that the prisoner "Hussein Masalma" (37 years), from Bethlehem, was found to be suffering from leukemia as a result of the failure of the occupation to follow up on his condition, as he has been suffering for several months from severe pain in the abdomen. Masalmeh has been detained since 2002, and the Israeli occupation refuses to release him even though he has only been left for several months after his 20-year sentence.

In addition, it was confirmed that the prisoner, Gamal Amr, from Hebron, had cancerous tumors in the liver and kidneys, and the cancer began to crawl to other places in his body and his health condition is very serious.

The occupation continued to suppress and mistreat prisoners by attacking sections with heavily armed special units, destroying their private property and confiscating many of them. The most dangerous of them is Ofer prison, where a number of prisoners suffocated as a result of gas spraying them during the storming of sections (16, 22, 21), in addition to removing all electrical appliances from the prisoners ’sections, which prompted them to protest the return of meals.
