Palestine News: The British Consul in Jerusalem Philip Hall warned today, Monday, that the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories constitute an obstacle to the start of peace negotiations between the two parties, describing them as illegal.

Media sources said that Hall expressed his concern about settler violence against the Palestinian people in the West Bank.
The consul said that the past five years were difficult, and there was no opportunity to improve the situation on the ground, especially since the previous US administration recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a decision that the United Kingdom rejected.

In early 2020, then-US President Donald Trump introduced the dubious Deal of the Century under which Israel could annex up to 30 percent of the occupied West Bank, while the Palestinians would have the right to a separate homeland, a kind of island surrounded by colonies.

Last week, the Arab League held an emergency meeting in which it called for the revival of talks between the Palestinians and the Israeli government in order to peacefully overcome the long-running conflict.

Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, during his speech at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, sought the support of that body to hold an international peace .
